การกล่าวคำขอโทษ (Apology)

1.Excuse me. ขอโทษค่ะ

2.Excuse me please. ขอโทษค่ะ อีกฝ่ายหนึ่งก็จะตอบว่า Certainly. ไม่เป็นไรครับ
แต่ถ้าหากทำให้เขาได้รับความเดือดร้อนมากกว่านี้ก็ควรกล่าวคำขอโทษว่า 1.I beg your pardon. ฉันขอโทษอย่างแรงเลยค่ะ/ขอประทานโทษค่ะ
2.I'm very sorry. ฉันเสียใจมากค่ะ
3.I'm awfully sorry. ฉันเสียใจมากเลยค่ะ
4.I'm terribly sorry. ฉันเสียใจอย่างสุดซึ้งเลยค่ะ
คำตอบสำหรับประโยคเช่นนี้ก็คือ
That's quite all right. ไม่เป็นไรครับ
ถ้าหากความผิดพลาดนั้นรุนแรงขึ้นอีก เช่น ทำให้เขาผิดหวัง หรือเสียใจ ก็ควรใช้ประโยคเหล่านี้ เช่น
1.I must apologize for not calling you yesterday. ฉันต้องขอโทษที่ไม่ได้โทรไปหาคุณเมื่อวานนี้
2.Will you please forgive me for being late? โปรดให้อภัยฉันด้วยสำหรับการมาช้าค่ะ
3.Excuse me for being late. ขอโทษที่มาสายค่ะ
4.Sorry to have kept you waiting. เสียใจที่ทำให้คุณต้องคอย
ประโยคที่มีเนื้อความในทำนองขออภัยสำหรับเรื่องเล็กๆ น้อยๆ เช่น
1.Excuse me for a moment. ขอโทษค่ะ โปรดรอสักครู่
2.Excuse me for interrupting. ขอโทษที่ขัดจังหวะค่ะ
3.I'm sorry to have troubled you. ฉันเสียใจที่ต้องรบกวนคุณ
4.Please forgive me, I won't do it again. โปรดยกโทษให้ฉันด้วย ฉันจะไม่ทำอย่างนั้นอีก
5.Really I don't mean to hurt you. ความจริงแล้วฉันไม่ได้ตั้งใจที่จะขัดใจคุณเลย
คำตอบสำหรับการยกโทษให้ก็คือ
1.Don't mention it. ไม่ต้องเอ๋ยถึงหรอกค่ะ
2.It wasn't your fault. มันไม่ใช่ความผิดของคุณ
3.It's nothing at all. ไม่เป็นไรเลยค่ะ
4.It doesn't matter. ไม่เป็นไรหรอกค่ะ
5.Don't worry about it. อย่ากังวลไปเลยค่ะ

*** กรณีที่เขาเหยียบเท้าเรา หรือเดินชนเรา และถ้าเขาขอโทษเราแล้ว เราก็อาจจะตอบว่า Never mind. ไม่เป็นไรครับ

ตัวอย่างบทสนทนา
A : I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, but today's traffic was very bad indeed.
B : Don't worry about it. We still have plenty of time.
A : Let's go then.

การกล่าวคำขอโทษถือเป็นเรื่องสำคัญอย่างยิ่ง เพราะเป็นเรื่องของมรรยาทสังคมควรปฏิบัติ และความผิดพลาดตกหล่นนี้เกิดขึ้นได้ทุกเวลา เช่นเราเดินไปชนใคร หรือทำให้ผู้หนึ่งผู้ใดลำบาก เราก็จะพูดว่า

Teaching Writing Skills

The most important factor in writing exercises is that students need to be personally involved in order to make the learning experience of lasting value. Encouraging student participation in the exercise, while at the same time refining and expanding writing skills, requires a certain pragmatic approach. The teacher should be clear on what skills he/she is trying to develop. Next, the teacher needs to decide on which means (or type of exercise) can facilitate learning of the target area. Once the target skill areas and means of implmentation are defined, the teacher can then proceed to focus on what topic can be employed to ensure student participation. By pragmatically combing these objectives, the teacher can expect both enthusiasm and effective learning.

However, if the task is more general (for example developing informal letter writing skills), maybe the best approach would be to have the students work in groups thereby learning from each other.

must

must
แปลว่า "ต้อง"ตามด้วยกริยาช่องที่ 1

หลักการใช้ดังนี้
1. ใช้แสดงความจำเป็นที่ต้องกระทำ
You must hand your homework in tomorrow.

2. ใช้ในการให้คำแนะนำหรือการสั่งกับตัวเราเองหรือกับบุคคลอื่นเช่น
He really must stop drinking.
You must sit there for two hours.
You mustn't talk in the classroom.

3. เราใช้ have to แทน must ได้
ความแตกต่างระหว่างการใช้ must และ have to
must เป็นการสั่งความจำเป็นมาจากบุคคลที่กำลังพูดหรือกำลังฟัง
have to
พูดถึงความจำเป็นที่มาจากภายนอกบางทีอาจจะเพราะว่ากฎหมาย
กฏระเบียบหรือเป็นข้อตกลงเช่น
I must go home now. It's going to rain soon.
You must stop smoking.
I have to stop smoking because I'm sick.
mustn't ใช้บอกบุคคลไม่ให้ทำสิ่งนั้นสิ่งนี้
haven"t got to, don't have to ใช้พูดในบางสิ่งที่ไม่สำคัญเช่น
You mustn't tell Dang. มีความหมายว่า (Don't tell Dang.)
You don't have to tell your wife. หมายความว่า
(You can if you like, but it is not necessary.)

4. ใช้ must เมื่อพูดถึงสิ่งที่เราแน่ใจเช่น
The boy keeps crying. He must be really sick.

การเลือกใช้ Verb ที่หลากหลายเป็นสิ่งที่ดี เพราะจะทำได้ฝึกใช้ภาษามากขึ้น เมื่อเราไปพบสิ่งที่เขาพูดกันแปลก ๆ เราจะได้เข้าใจว่ามันมีความหมายเช่นเดีวยกัน

may might

may might
1.ใช้กับการพูดถึงการมีโอกาสของบางสิ่งบางทีอาจเป็นจริงหรืออาจจะเกิดขึ้นเช่น
They may take a day off next week.
She might call me tonight.

2. might ไม่ได้เป็น past ของ may เราจะใช้ might เมื่อเรามีโอกาสที่น้อยกว่า may เช่น
I may go to visit my uncle in this weekend. (บางทีโอกาสจะเป็น 50%)
Jany might go with me. (บางทีโอกาสจะเป็น 30% )

3.การใช้ may/might กับ have ใช้แสดงการคาดคะเนที่อาจจะเกิดขึ้นในอดีต
may/might + have +V3
He may have gone out when I phoned him.
A: I can't find my notebook.
B:You might have left it at home.

4. ใช้ may might ในการขออนุญาตเช่น
May I sit here?
I wonder if I might have another cup of tea?

5. ใช้ may ในการอนุญาตและไม่อนุญาต เช่น
Students may not play alone in the pool.
A: May I turn the radio on?
B: Yes, of course you may.

Verb เป็นสิ่งที่สำคัญอีกอย่างหนึ่งที่เราควรศึกษาให้ดี Verb บางตัว มีความหมายที่คล้ายคลึงกัน ดังนั้นก่อนที่เราจะตัดสินใจใช้ Verb เราควรรู้ความหมายให้ดีเสียก่อน ถ้าหากเราใช้ Verb ผิด อาจจะทำให้ความหมายของประโยคนั้น ๆ ผิดก็ได้
